⚡ Energy

1. Energy is needed by all living things to grow, move and reproduce.

2. Animals get their energy by eating food.

3. Energy exists in different forms such as light, heat, sound, electrical, kinetic and potential energy.

4. The Sun is our main source of light and heat energy.

5. Heat energy cannot be seen but can be felt by the skin. Heat energy can be generated through movement and friction as we rub two surfaces together.

6. Sound energy is a form of energy that is produced through vibrations and allows us to hear.

7. Batteries and dynamos are a source of electrical energy.

8. A moving object possesses kinetic energy due to its movement.

9. The energy stored in an object is known as potential energy. (Note: Gravitational potential energy, chemical potential energy and elastic potential energy are forms of potential energy.)

1. Energy can be neither created nor destroyed.

2. Energy can be converted / transformed / changed from one form into another.

4. When a child plays on a swing, two forms of energy are constantly changing from one form into another. The forms of energy involved are kinetic energy and potential energy.
