Human Circulatory System
The heart pumps blood to all parts of the body; blood carries digested food, oxygen and water
Humans: double circulation — blood passes through the heart twice
Exercise: BE PORED — the body needs more energy, so the heart pumps faster
Electricity
A closed circuit with no gaps lets the current flow; conductors light the bulb, insulators do not
Series: one pathway · parallel: separate pathways
More batteries or more coils → stronger electromagnet
Plant Transport System
Food-carrying tubes transport food made by the leaves, up or down
Water-carrying tubes transport water and mineral salts up from the roots
Cut a ring of the water-carrying tubes → the leaf above cannot make food and dies
Reproduction in Animals
Sperm (testes) and egg (ovaries) fuse → fertilised egg, which develops in the womb
Traits come from both parents — skin, eye and hair colour, blood type
Living things reproduce to ensure the continuity of their kind
Reproduction in Plants
Petals attract animals · anther makes pollen · stigma receives it · ovary holds ovules
Pollination: pollen reaches the stigma from the anther, then fertilisation happens in the ovule
Ovary → fruit, ovule → seed; seeds disperse by water, wind, splitting or animals
Human Respiratory System
Breathing is physical (inhaling and exhaling); respiration is chemical, in every cell
Nose → windpipe → lungs; air sacs increase the exposed surface area
Exhaled air: less oxygen, more carbon dioxide and more water vapour
Water & Changes of State
Melting (0°C), boiling (100°C) and evaporation (any temperature) gain heat; freezing and condensation lose it
Boiling happens throughout the liquid; evaporation only at the surface
Rate of evaporation: WET — wind, exposed surface area, temperature
